Happy New Year to all Michael DiMercurio fans everywhere! 2004 is here and
we've got a lot to talk about.
First off, congratulations to our troops in Iraq for the capture of the evil
and cowardly dictator, Saddam Hussein! Saddam was captured while sleeping in
a rat-hole, trying to hide from our guys. He's now safely behind bars and
singing like a bird, trying to get a deal that will spare him execution. To all
those soldiers who were involved in Saddam's capture I say, well done and
thank you!
I also want to send a special thank you out to Army Sergeant, David Thomas in
Iraq. Sergeant Thomas found a copy of Mike's book, Phoenix Sub Zero, in a
palace around Baghdad and was kind enough to E-mail me his story and a couple
pictures. I've exchanged several E-mails with Sergeant Thomas and I've found
him to be an outstanding, honorable and patriotic American soldier. There's no
doubt in my mind that Sergeant Thomas is a credit to his unit and just one
fine example of the typical American soldier. Thank you, Sergeant Thomas!
I know you're all wondering if there's any news about Mike's next novel.
Well, the short answer is, no. The book, titled still classified, is "canned"
and in the hands of Mike's editor. So, the good news is that it shouldn't be
too much longer before we know the title and release date. All I can say is
hang in there and keep the faith, DiMercurio fans.
Lastly, I want to thank all the folks who have written E-mails to me. I
really get a kick out of hearing from other DiMercurio readers who enjoy his work
as much as I do. I also want to thank all those who have taken the time to
show up in the Sonar Shack Chat Room on Wednesday nights. We've had some
wonderful discussions and it has been an honor for me to spend time with some
remarkable people.
On behalf of Mike and myself I want to wish you all a happy and prosperous
2004.
Best wishes and fair sailing.

Hey there, Sorry it took so long to send this photo to you. I hope everyone had a great
Christmas and will have a great New Years celebration! Take care, and I wish
everyone much success and happiness in the next year.
I'm honored that you are all interested in me an my situation here. I am in a Corp Support Command, which runs all of the logistics for ALL the forces in Iraq, before, during, and since the war started. We're currently stationed in Balad, about an hour north of Baghdad, and are nearing the end of a year long deployment here.
Just to give some of my history. I am a Chaplain Assistant, which is essentially a bodyguard/secretary/counselor. I've been in for nearly 14 years, which started as an infantryman for 8 years. I've been assigned as a sniper/RTO/Long Range Surveillance team leader/ and now am the Plans and Operations NCO for 30 other Ministry Teams scattered throughout Iraq. I am new to my current job, having just come from Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division (from a Light Infantry Battalion)
On a lighter note, I've been a fan of Michael Dimercurio for several years, and picked up ANOTHER copy of Phoenix Sub Zero to read (from a palace here in Baghdad of all places!!!) last week...I guess he has fans ALL over the place!
I only have a few pictures really, but this one of me beside my vehicle after coming back from a convoy. I'll try to find some good ones to send to you.
I hope this helps, and thank you again.
If there is anything else you can think of to ask me, I'll see what I can do to help!
Thanks and take care,
SGT David Thomas
