May 2004 DiMercurio Fan Club Newsletter

I remember the day I first discovered Michael DiMercurio at my local Barnes & Noble book store. I was browsing the Clancy section, seeing nothing that tripped my trigger and then I happened upon the cover art of Threat Vector. I had never heard of Michael DiMercurio, so I turned the book over and read the back panel. The brief synopsis of the book intrigued me, so I bought it and went home. I remember thinking that this so-called "rival" of Clancy might get me by until I found another good book to read. But, before I got into the book I leafed through the back pages and found an invitation to email Michael with comments or questions. I thought, why not, might as well shoot this guy an email and let him know I'm about to read his book and see what he has to say. Long story short, I emailed Mike and he replied with an invitation to write him back to let him know what I thought of Threat Vector.

So, I dug into Threat Vector and was totally blown away by it. Every time I thought I had the plot figured out, Mike would shift gears and take things up a notch. This book was incredible and the bad guys were ruthless and determined. The technology alone in this book was breathtaking in its complexity and functionality. I found myself unable to put the book down. It was truly an exhilarating experience from beginning to end.

I realized after reading just one DiMercurio novel that he was no ordinary writer. His style of storytelling was insightful, intriguing and mesmerizing. It was clear that this former submariner, turned writer had extraordinary talent and to call him a mere rival of Tom Clancy was at best, lame. I knew Michael DiMercurio was a force in the submarine combat genre to be reckoned with and every other author in this specialty was being served notice. The DiMercurio era had begun.

I again emailed Mike and told him that Threat Vector was amazing and I would be purchasing ALL of his other novels. I have since read each and every DiMercurio novel several times over. As a matter of fact, I am currently rereading Voyage of the Devilfish for the sixth time. That may seem excessive to some or even obsessive, but like a favorite vintage of fine wine or a beloved brand of cigar, Michael DiMercurio's novels never get old to me. I cherish them and the characters written within their pages are like old friends that I constantly want to embrace and admire.

Dear friends, I have made it one of my missions in life to spread the word that a truly great and gifted author lives and breathes amongst us, that his tales are bold, unique and inspiring. That author's name is Michael DiMercurio.
