Summer 2005 DiMercurio Fan Club Newsletter

Okay, time to dust off the cobwebs and get back into the game here folks. Sorry I haven't written a newsletter in quite some time, but as an air breathing nonqual it can be hard to come up with subjects interesting enough to write about, especially when you're trying to write about nuclear submarines.

On to business now; Michael has finished part two of his new trilogy, which is titled, Vertical Dive. Again, I have had the great honor to read the manuscript of this new novel before any of you and I have to tell you that I love this book. Michael wrote this book with rich characters that are at once very human and also very inhumane. I cheered and cried for the good guys and was repulsed and bitterly angry at the bad guys. The stark differences between the two sides of good and evil in this novel are staggering. This time it's not Peter Vornado who gets kicked in the crotch by life, though he does get beat up pretty badly. No, it's B.K. Dillinger who takes God's wrath on the chin this time around and you'll wonder when you read this book how anyone could go through such personal tribulations and still keep his wits about him enough to command a submarine at sea.

One of the new twists in this novel is the introduction of the French Navy. Up until now all DiMercurio novels have dealt with the Russians, Chinese and Japanese, but this time Michael puts the spurs to the French and they respond with true heroism and Napoleonic courage, but ultimately need, once again, the good old US of A to come to the rescue. Unfortunately, Vornado and Dillinger can offer no salvation; only prosecution and deadly force to save France from total annihilation by savage and brutal terrorists who have somehow commandeered a French boomer submarine.

Vertical Dive will take you to places your heart does not want to go, but at the same time fulfill your desire to read a magnificent story about nuclear submarines in combat. This novel drips with super authenticity about the submarine community and then swings around to show you the dark side of humanity from the eyes and perceptions of the warped mind of a calculating, cold blooded terrorist with delusions of grandeur. Vertical Dive should be released sometime around Christmas, 2005 and I encourage everyone to pre-order a copy now at Amazon.com, so you can have it as soon as it's available. I promise you a thrilling journey and a read that you won't soon forget.
