JA -- -- Sound powered phone circuit between control, maneuvering and the captain’s stateroom.

JOOD -- -- Junior Officer of the Deck, an assistant to the OOD. When in transit, the JOOD is usually an unqualified officer in a training position, given the Conn and supervised by the OOD. In trail or on patrol, the JOOD is a submarine qualified OOD standing a watch to assist the OOD in prosecuting the target, which is usually a hostile submarine.
