GLOSSARY:
-N-
Narrowband Processor -- -- A computer filter that screens out all noise except that at a single frequency. Much like the tuner on a radio.
Natural Circulation -- -- Water flow through a reactor caused only by the heat of the core – hot water rises and cold water sinks because of buoyancy. Eliminates the need for noisy main coolant pumps, allowing quieter operation.
Negative Buoyancy -- -- State which causes an object to sink in water, indicating that the object has greater density than the liquid around it.
NESTOR Secure Voice -- -- A UHF radiotelephone communication system that encrypts a voice signal prior to transmission and decrypts it after reception. Can be transmitted to the satellite and beamed worldwide. Fast, secure means of communication.
Neutral Buoyancy -- -- When an submerged object is equally dense as the water around it, it is said to have achieved neutral buoyancy, which means that it will neither rise nor sink.
NMCC (National Military Command Center) -- -- A nerve center in the Pentagon where orders originate for fighting a war. Seasoned officers scoff at the idea that NMCC would survive the first hour of an all-out nuclear war, which is why there are airborne command posts and deep bunkers.
Nukes -- -- (1) Nuclear weapons. (2) Nuclear trained officers or enlisted personnel.
