GLOSSARY:

Wardroom -- -- (1) Officers’ messroom. Used also as a conference room, briefing room, reconstruction room, junior officers’ office, movie screening room and lounge. (2) The group of officers assigned to a ship.
Warshot -- -- A weapon that is intended to sink an enemy ship as opposed to an exercise shot.
Watch/Watchstation -- -- A six hour shift during which a group of men at their specific stations operate the ship. A watchstation is an individual’s assignment during the watch.
Watchsection -- -- A collection of watchstanders who run the submarine for a six hour shift.
Waterfall Display -- -- The display of the broadband sonar system, with sound data “falling” down the screen with time on the vertical and bearing on the horizontal part of the screen. A distant contact will appear as a bright vertical stripe on the screen. The display is divided into the three horizontal displays: the top is the long time plot, with a vertical width of 60 minutes; the middle displays 10 minutes; the bottom displays one to two minutes.
Water-Tight Door -- -- A very heavy sealed door in the water tight bulkhead between compartments.
Weapon Control Console -- -- Aft console of the firecontrol system used to lineup and program weapons and tubes.
