IRAQ AND PLAYING HIDE-THE-WEAPON-OF-MASS-DESTRUCTION
I was asked recently if I thought Iraq were hiding the means
of making weapons of mass destruction.
The facts:
Given the facts, I think Iraq could have successfully hidden
the moon from the international inspectors.
Question: Should the U.S. go in and rearrange the political
landscape?
Answer: Depends – if you don't mind seeing headlines like
this --
(1) it takes months or years to conduct a thorough
search of an entire country for signs of making WMDs and
even then, disguising WMD development is easy;
(2) the
Iraqis had years to work on hiding those signs;
(3) when the
new inspections were becoming imminent, Iraq had months of
notice to cover up any recent signs of WMD development.
-- then let Saddam remain in office.
Interestingly, the same people who complain so much about
us pushing around Iraq and being warmongers are the same
folks who would be calling for the president's head if an Iraqi
weapon of mass destruction were to go off on U.S. soil.
Question: Mr. DiMercurio, your personal hero, James Webb,
was on CNN denouncing the war buildup. What do you think
of that?
Answer: I listened to everything he said and I have no idea
why he would oppose going into Iraq with clear objectives
with the military empowered to achieve them. Webb hates to
see his Marines sent into harm's way for no reason with no
national appreciation (who wants that to happen?). Otherwise,
his comments are a mystery to me.

EMERGENCY DEEP: First in an electrifying new series from “A MASTER RIVALING TOM CLANCY.” --Publishers Weekly U.S. Navy submarine commander Peter Vornado is at the top of his game in underwater warfare when a devastating illness takes him out of the service and almost to the grave. Without duty, honor, or something to fight for, his life is as good as over. But the CIA needs a man like Vornado… A terrorist cabal has acquired a scrapped Soviet sub from the Cold War -- a technologically advanced failure still able to outrun any torpedo or enemy vessel and strike at will. With a nuclear payload, it will enable them to strike directly at Israeland throw the world into chaos. All that remains is to modernize the sub with the latest technology. Only one man can infiltrate the group, take the helm, and stop a holocaust -- a man who has already stared down death, and is ready to do battle once more… “Compelling and visionary. DiMercurio’s characters run as deep as his submarines themselves!” --Joe Buff, author of Crush Depth and Thunder in the Deep |
